Annual Banquet
Mansion House Walbrook, London, United KingdomThis event is always the highpoint of our Livery's annual social round, and this year should be no exception. Our guests for the evening will include the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, plus at least one Sheriff(!), and there will be other familiar faces too. During the evening we will be clothing at least one of our Livery friends, and also formally affiliating with II Squadron RAF Regt, (in place of our previous relationship with 47 Sqn, which has recently been put to sleep, pending a new role). There will, of course, be the usual quarterly report from the Almoner on the work of our excellent Charity, and grants it has made in the name of all of us. The flash appeal on the evening will be in aid of the Little Princess Trust. This charity makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to the side effects of the treatment for their cancers. Amazingly, most of that hair is donated by other children, who witness the dreadful impact of the hair loss on their young friends. As well as the usual speeches after the meal, there should also be some entertainment. However, that cannot be revealed until the night, but what you will notice on entering the Egyptian Hall to dine, is a stage built to one side. Talking of speakers, the Lord Mayor aside (who is excellent), our external speaker is The Hon Harry Herbert, who is the son of our late Queen's racing manager, and today the UK's leading director of racing syndicates. He has lots of interesting tales to tell from that slightly mad world, and happily for us, only a limited sense of discretion!
