Support for our City

All of the City Livery Companies support the City and its Lord Mayor both in maintaining its traditions and supporting its charitable projects. Our Charity is pleased to offer regular, annual support to the following charities and Liverymen are invited to participate whenever possible.

City Churches

Our annual Church and Carol services are generally held in City churches, often St Martin’s in Ludgate, a Wren church in Ludgate Hill. All Liverymen are encouraged to attend the two main City services held in St Paul’s Cathedral – the United Guilds Service and the Friends of the Sons of Clergy Service. The Company also helps to fund the Festival of Music (St Cecilia) Service and details of all of these services can be found in the Company calendar.

SPITALFIELDS CITY FARM

City and City related charities

The Treloar School Trust was established by a past Lord Mayor of the City, Sir William Treloar, and successive Lord Mayors are automatically appointed as Trustee. The Trust provides education, care and medical support for young people with physical disabilities from all over the UK. It specialises in preparing them for independence and life beyond their education.

The Sheriffs’ & Recorder’s Fund gives small grants to ex-prisoners and their families to help discourage re-offending and help them to start a new life.

The Big Curry Lunch is hosted by the Lord Mayor at Guildhall for the benefit of Armed Forces charities.

Spitalfields City Farm is one of the 12 City Farms to be found in Central London. They are working farms with animals, crops and gardens maintained to educate and motivate young people in particular. They are visited by hundreds of thousands of people and Spitalfields Farm in Tower Hamlets is the nearest to the Square Mile.

SHEEP DRIVE

Sea Cadets at Mansion House

Our affiliations with the Armed Services, Cadets and Scouts all follow initiatives for their support established by the Lord Mayor and the Corporation.

Many of our Liverymen participate in ‘Inter-Livery’ charity events such as the Swimathon, the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race and the London Bridge Sheep Drive.

City of London Academy, Bermondsey – The Harold Edey Scholarship

The Company always funds a student through their 6th Form and on to University. The winning student is selected as one who needs such support to undertake this further education and is expected to study a mathematics based subject up to A-level. The award was originally founded by the Edey family and is now perpetuated by the Charity.
