SUMMARY:United Guilds Service
DESCRIPTION:SORRY: This event sold out in just four days! \nAt a meeting of the City’s Livery Companies in 1943\, it was decided to hold a Service in St Paul’s Cathedral\, to lift the spirits of the City after the Blitz\, which had only recently ended\, having wrought such devastation on the capital in particular. This has now become an annual event\, held in the presence of the Bishop of London\, the Lord Mayor\, Sheriffs and Aldermen\, and is one of the few occasions where the Liveries and Guilds all worship together. \nAdmission is by ticket only. We always take a party to the service\, usually using our full allocation of places. The service starts at 11.30am (though we have to be seated before then) and after it ends at about 12.30pm\, we and lots of other Liveries and Guilds walk the short distance to the lovely Plaisterers’ Hall for a drinks reception followed by what is always a pretty lively\, three-course Lunch. \nWe are usually allocated 23 places\, but I haven’t been told this year’s number. Members can bring one guest\, and bookings will be honoured on a first-come-first-served basis. \nThe UGS is naturally free (The Company makes a donation centrally\, and there is the usual collection during the service.)\, and places at the lunch afterwards cost £89 each\, inc Vat. \nSORRY: This event sold out in just four days!

SUMMARY:Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch
DESCRIPTION:This annual City institution has grown over the years until it is now quite the largest and swankiest Curry Lunch one is every likely to attend\, and very much a sight to be seen. \nTickets cost £100 and for that we get a drinks reception in the Old Library at Guildhall and then move through into the Great Hall\, where teams of chefs man a series of serveries\, with a mouth-watering series of curries laid out on them\, along with the usual accompaniments. \nWe always take a party\, so book your place(s) here and then we can all coordinate over timings\, as the event itself runs from Noon to 3pm\, with various time slots on offer.

DESCRIPTION:Istanbul\, a fascinating city built on two Continents\, divided by the Bospheros Strait. This is one of the greatest cities in the world where you can see a modern western city combined with a traditional eastern city\, it’s a melting pot of many civilizations and different people. \nFrom the foundation of Byzantium in the 7th century BC until today\, Istanbul held always an important role in the history of humanity in this part of the world. \nThe tour will encompass the Old City with the Byzantine Hippodrome\, the Blue Mosque\, Hagia Sophia\, the Spice Market and a glance on the Topkapı Palace. \nOur speaker who will be speaking directly from Istanbul will give us a live streaming presentation with a beautiful video of the city. \nJoin us on Wednesday 13th April at 6.20pm for the first in our series of live tours. \nCost –  £15 per connection (any number of viewers).  No prebooking is required – simply turn up on the night and Jonathan will collect via Gocardless.

The pandemic intervened and the event was postponed. \nWe now have a new date and Hilary and current Master Estlin will be delighted if you can join them both on Friday 22nd April at the Little Yang Sing Restaurant (the Yang Sing is being refurbished)\, in Manchester’s celebrated Chinatown. \n‘The restaurant offers the best traditional Cantonese cuisine in the North West’ says one of the many glowing reviews. \nTickets will be £69 each for a Chinese Banquet with drinks before\, during and after the lunch. The venue is available to us from 12:30pm to 4:00pm

SUMMARY:Spring Dinner for Members and Potential Members
DESCRIPTION:Glaziers’ Hall is unique – not because it actually stands outside the City boundaries\, as Gunmakers\, Distillers and Architects do so too – but because it is the only one shared by three Companies. Quite how the Glaziers\, Launderers and Scientific Instrument Makers got together\, much less co-operated on something as potentially contentious as the purchase and maintenance of a Hall\, remains a subject of debate. However\, it really is an amazing building\, with some spectacular rooms looking north across the river towards the Square Mile\, and the stunning engineering of London Bridge on its right flank. \n\nThe Master is holding our Common Hall at Glaziers’ Hall from 6pm to 6.45pm\, and then we are moving on to a drinks reception (very necessary after the stress of our AGM!) in the stunning River Room\, before enjoying a buffet supper\, complete with a performance by the well-known London band: Lady and the Dukes. \n\nThis will be a fun event and by tradition is confined to Members and guests who are themselves prospective Members. \n\n\nPlaces cost just £54\, so come and enjoy an evening of good food and drink\, plus some fine music\, with your fellow Members and other CAs whom you think might be interested in joining our ranks.
